Spring cleaning may be the most famous season-based opportunity to organize your home — but back-to-school cleaning is probably the most important. In this article, we will present homeowners with a useful guide to getting their houses ready for all the fun and chaos that the autumn brings!
- Donate. Whenever you undertake the endeavor of organizing your home, the first step you should consider is donating unused items to charity. In addition to offering a bit of much-needed karma and good luck during the challenging back-to-school season, this will also free up space and allow you to focus on storing and preserving the items you really care about.
- Purge. Secondly, and just as importantly, just toughen up and throw away any items that can neither be used or donated! Yes, the environment matters. Yes, there are less fortunate people out there. And yes, you could potentially one day end up using that old stained shirt or half-fried appliance. But in the end, you will be better positioned to care for your belongings if you just get rid of unwanted items. A good rule of thumb: if it’s not in good enough condition to be donated, it should probably be trashed!
- Deep clean. Once you have donated and thrown away to your heart’s content, you are finally ready to begin a cleaning process. (And if this rule seems harsh, just consider all the time you have saved by getting rid of items you never would have used anyway.)
- Organize. The difference between cleaning and organizing is an important one — and it important to understand that cleaning (i.e. dusting, washing, disinfecting, etc.) is different from organizing! Once you have successfully deep-cleaned your home, putting everything in its right place should be relatively straight forward.
- Shop. So, by now you have donated unwanted items, thrown away unusable items, deep-cleaned the house that remained in the wake of this purge, and then organized all the surviving items. If you have made it this far — and only if you have made it this far — are you finally ready to participate in the joys of back to school shopping. With the incredible amount of sales being promoted by so many supermarkets and websites, this process should be just as easy as it is enjoyable!
- Recognize that Back to School Care is an Ongoing Process. Each and every new year’s eve, the seemingly inspiring and benign date of January first drives countless perfectionists to near insanity in their efforts to make the new year a perfect year. And, like it or not, the back-to-school season can have a similar effect on parents and students alike. The best remedy to this problem is to recognize that the start of the new year, like any new beginning, is likely to include a few complications. The best response to these complications is not an irrational desire for perfection — it is an unshakable desire for improvement. So, no matter how your school year starts, take charge and make it even better! To learn more, visit the Blue Marble Properties Blog online today!
